    [TUT] - Grunge Style Wire

    Grunge Wires

    Level:

    Author: *CONTAGEN*

    In this tutoral i'm going to show you how to create a grunge style wire.

    [Break= Installing your pattern]
    Before we start we are going to install a custom pattern that we will be
    using later on in the tutorial u can get it HERE

    Installing your Pattern
    ------------------------------

    Once downloaded you need to place the file into your Photoshop
    Patterns directory.

    The usual directory is

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS\Presets\Patterns

    [Break=Step 1 - Creating the wire]

    Open a new document 250x250

    create a new layer (name it Wire)

    STEP 1 Creating the wire

    1. Select the Pen tool

    [ >> click here for a tutorial on how to use the pen tool << ]

    Make sure the settings are as follows :

    2. Create your first Anchor point you do this by
    clicking once on the canvas see the image below :

    3. Create your second Anchor point only this time when you

    click dont let go of the mouse button, simply drag the mouse
    cursor downwards, see the image below :

    4. Create ur third Anchor point do as u did in the prevous
    step only drag diagonal see the image below :

    You should now have a path similar to this :

    5. Select the brush tool

    Make sure the settings are as follows :

    Doing this will basically set the thickness
    our wire will be.

    6. Select the Pen tool again

    Now right click on the canvas and select
    stroke path from the menu that appears :

    Another menu will appear just select brush:

    Right click on the canvas again and this time
    select delete path :

    [Break=Step 2 - Adding the layer effects]

    STEP 2 Adding the layer effects

    7. On the top menu :

    Layer > LayerStyle > Blending Options

    and set each of the following :

    Drop Shadow

    Inner Shadow

    Inner Glow

    Bevel and Emboss

    Contour

    For the texture select the pattern we installed earlier,
    click on the thumbnail image and select it from the list
    if it's not there u will have to load it manually,
    to do this click on the circular arrow select Load Patterns
    and load the pattern from the directory you placed it earlier.

    Texture

    Satin

    [Break=Step 3 - Creating the wire tips]

    STEP 3 Now we will create the wire tips

    Create a new layer (name it Wire Tips) also place
    your wire tips layer below the wire layer in the
    layers palette.

    8. Select the Elliptical Marque tool

    and while holding shift draw a small circle :

    9. Select the paint bucket tool

    and fill the selected circle with black.

    10. Select the Elliptical Marque tool again and move
    the already made marque to the other end of the wire
    and repeat step 9.

    now deselect

    You should now have some thing similar to
    the image below :

    [Break=Step 4 - Adding the layer effects]

    STEP 4 Adding the layer effects

    11. On the top menu :

    Layer > LayerStyle > Blending Options

    and set each of the following :

    Inner Shadow

    Outer Glow

    Bevel and Emboss

    We have to set a custom contour for bevel and emboss
    so click on the gloss contour and set it like this :

    Contour

    Satin

    Stroke

    Ok now were done you should now have a
    grunge wire complete with wire tips :

    Happy PSing
